Here’s a very interesting animation from Jeff Stearns, who i’m told is my 2nd or 3rd cousin or something… but i cannot verify that unless someone can tell his mother’s maiden name! (if anyone knows, please leave a comment!)

Update: I finally talked to my mother and my Aunt to determine that the Chiba family is a different family, but one of the relatively few Japanese families in Kelowna back in the day.  So apparently a bunch of people in our family (the Ibaraki and Fujisawa family) know people in the Chiba family. 

I guess for our families from who grew up in Kelowna back in the day.. well for all maybe twenty nikkei families (*hums Cheers theme song* Where every body know your name) elements of Jeff’s story ring very true for all of us. Nearly that entire generation of japanese canadians in kelowna (our parent’s generation) married hakujin (caucasian). And we always grew up not quite sure of who we are… perhaps not even culturally relatable to our parents… at any rate, please enjoy, ponder, share, and discuss!

Laptop in for service

So my laptop has been sent away for service =( but i’m really tempted to get another one… The video quality of these is okay, the audio is kinda soso.. more about it below.. i know i know… i look super run down and sickly =( I was pretty sick when i took the video…

I really like my Toshiba… despite all the problems i’ve had… although the Toshiba P10s seem to have been discontinued.. leaving only the 17″ quosimo, predecessor of the P30, in their high end multimedia lineup. I’d like to get a Toshiba Tecra M5 but it’s too pricey for a 2nd laptop…

A 2nd laptop for software development and business ^__^ I’m actually thinking of the Dell Inspiron 6400s ah well… maybe next month when i’m ready to leave the country…

As i mentioned in my last post… I’ve been looking for a encoder… to encode from sd-video to flash video. I found instructions for compiling ffmpeg here: http://soenkerohde.com/tutorials/ffmpeg so now after i convert sd-video to regular mpg, then i can use the command line ffmpeg to convert to flv.

As some of you may know, I’ve been doing some video editing with the DV Cam i’ve borrowed… been preparing some ThinkPiece articles, etc….

But some of you also know, that I’ve just picked up a Panasonic D-Snap (as seen here: http://panasonic.jp/d-snap/as3/)

however, this uses SD-Video (MPEG4 with an ASF File Wrapper and G.726Audio) and I’ve having a LOT of trouble re-encoding them into Flash Video FLV format. I’ve tried encoding with Riva FLV Encoder, i’ve tried encoding with FFMPEG with no luck. I’ve tried reencoding the files into 3GP, MP4, various AVI, MPG, and WMV formats then encoding to FLV… again with no luck… if anyone can help out PLEASE!!! let me know ASAP!!!

So sad to put it up for sale… but my motorcycle, is now up for sale As you may know, i’m moving to Taiwan and Japan fairly soon… and I need the money to fund my trip and meet my visa requirements…

Comments: The ZZR is a great beginner bike and a great commuter bike!
Enough power to get up to 170kph, but not so much power than you窶冤l quickly get into trouble. It窶冱 250cc so insurance and gasoline mileage is a lot more economical (will run 87 octane for the cost effective commuter). There is some rashing to the fairings from low speed lowside, but that窶冱 just cosmetic anyways.

I will throw in a couple hundred page photocopy of the service manual. You can find the PDFs on the web, but the printed out copy might as well go with the bike.
